EBASE canvasses for community redistricting commission in Oakland

November 13, 2013 -- Partnership for Working Families

In Oakland, EBASE, along with its local collaborative, Oakland Rising, and California Calls ran a 16-day non-partisan civic engagement program in October.

Canvassers educated low-propensity voters about signing up for the Affordable Care Act.  They also gauged support for a local community redistricting commission.

Combining a 20-person paid team and 65 volunteer shifts on the doors, they contacted 7,592 voters. 87% were supportive of the Affordable Care Act, and 23% plan to sign up. 83% said they were supportive of a community redistricting commission that would take the redistricting decision out of the hands of city council, and put it in the hands of residents.
