Pittsburgh United Rallies for a Responsible Budget

In May, citizens from across the state of Pennsylvania gathered to participate in the Rally for a Responsible Budget.

Pittsburgh UNITED participated to show support of a balanced approach to the state budget that includes finding efficiencies, smart budget savings and long-term revenue solutions to effectively address Pennsylvania's budget crisis.

Less than three years ago, Pittsburgh UNITED was a small coalition of union, environmental, faith-based and community organizations committed to making change in low-income communities. Today we’re a formidable—and still growing—coalition responsible for winning the first-ever community benefits agreement (CBA) in the City of Pittsburgh, and passage of a law that requires developers who receive City subsidies to create decent, family-sustaining jobs.

One Hill Coalition Appeals Planning Commission Approval of New Penguins Arena Master Development Plan

Pittsburgh UNITED has brought attention to the need for a CBA around the new Pittsburgh Penguins hockey arena development in the Hill District and some of the gaps in the local development process through its recent actions – most notably the appeal of the Pittsburgh City Planning Commission’s decision to approve the arena master development plan.  The events leading up to this decision and subsequent appeal are quite complex as illustrated in the timetable below:
