LAANE Co-Founder Madeline Janis Talks About Fighting for Fairness on Bill Moyers

May 13, 2013 -- Partnership for Working Families

Co-founder and current national policy director of Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) appeared in a featured segment on nationally syndicated show Moyers and Company on May 10. She joined economic equality advocate Rachel LaForest, executive director of Right to the City, to discuss the importance of grassroots mobilization and organizing for instituting strong, long-lasting economic and social change in American cities — recognizing that real change comes when people can tell their own stories and have a say in their democracy.

Among the examples highlighted were some of LAANE's inspiring campaign victories, including the Long Beach living wage ordinance won in November 2012, the clean trucks program at the Port of Los Angeles, and the exclusive franchise system achieved for LA's waste and recycling through the Don't Waste LA coalition.

You can see Madeline Janis explain LAANE's vision of "a new economy for all" here.  Or watch the entire program here.
