Ada Briceño Fighting for Justice in Orange County

March 24, 2016 -- Partnership for Working Families

Ada Briceño is OCCORD’s interim executive director and co-founder, and Secretary-Treasurer of UNITE HERE Local 11, which represents hotel and hospitality workers in Los Angeles and Orange counties. Ada was originally recruited as a rank and file leader at the hotel where she worked, and at the age of 26 became the first Latina president of the union representing Orange County hotel workers. Today, she is a powerful force for justice in Orange County. When Anaheim’s city council majority attempted to derail the widely supported “People’s Map” proposed for the City’s new districts, Ada and UNITE HERE planned a massive and strategic protest that would disrupt a major convention in Anaheim. In response to this threat to their business, Anaheim’s politically powerful tourism interests pressured the city council to support the People’s Map.

Ada was honored by Clergy and Laity Unity for Economic Justice (CLUE) last month, at their Architects of Justice event.
