Pittsburgh United seeks to hire a full time digital organizer to build sustainable power in key regions of Western Pennsylvania that will determine the political and economic future for working class people across the state. The digital organizer will be responsible for building community support for a union contract campaign to raise wages to $15 an hour at a major employer in our region. This campaign will help shift state political power to rebuild our jobs and our union rights in working class communities, with a focus on areas that have seen wages and investment decline over past decades.
The digital organizer will be part of a team of organizers that will work together to accomplish the goals of the campaign. The digital organizer will be responsible for reaching and growing a network of activists that are responsive and engaged with the campaign, with a particular focus on moving supporters from online to offline engagement.
We are seeking individuals who are passionate, versatile, and enthusiastic with experience using online tools to tell the story of a campaign, identifying new supporters, and organizing people online to take action both online and offline. Previous experience as a digital organizer is necessary for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The digital organizer will work closely with on the ground organizers to build a cohesive campaign that fully integrates supporters across a range of online and offline engagement.
Typical activities will include:
- Generate opportunities to identify and engage campaign supporters and drive measurable online actions through alerts, infographics, key messages, etc.
- Utilize social media and texting programs to maximize digital list building
- Deepen supporters sense of identity and involvement with the campaign, including both online and offline engagement
- Perform uploads to email database and facilitating email campaign list selection and segmentation testing and strategy
- Understand and apply data analytics related to the campaign email list, website, and social channels to improve the effectiveness of the campaign
Qualifications and Skills:
- Commitment to understand race, class, gender, and other equity issues as part of your work as well as the impact these structural issues have on our collective work environment
- Belief in and commitment to progressive social, racial, and economic justice
- We are seeking previous experience of a minimum of one fully executed digital organizing campaign and the ability to mentor others in digital organizing skills
- Experience with Google Analytics, WordPress, BlueStateDigital, NGP VAN / EveryAction, and/or other advocacy platforms
- Proficiency in the strategic use of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms, as well as social media management systems (i.e. Hootsuite)
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to receive and integrate performance based feedback into ongoing work plans as well as the ability to provide relevant and timely feedback to peers in a constructive manner
Other Information: The work schedule includes some evening and weekend meetings and events, as necessary. Candidates requiring strictly a 9 to 5 schedule will not be a good fit for this position. This is a full time contract that covers April 20th, 2017 - July 1st, 2018. Starting salary is $45,000 per year (increases commensurate with experience) plus health, dental, and vision benefits. Paid sick days and five paid vacation days are included. A cell phone reimbursement, as well as mileage and campaign expense reimbursements, will be provided.
