Community Benefits in New York City Bring Wall-to-Wall Living Wage Jobs to the Bronx

The Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition (NWBCCC) is celebrating a game changing Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) in New York City, signed with the Kingsbridge National Ice Center (KNIC).  KNIC is building the world’s largest ice center at the Kingsbridge Armory, and the Kingsbridge CBA ensures that the project will incorporate community priorities and vision.  The victory is the culmination of 15 years of hard work and patient organizing.

A couple of days after the mayor announced that the Kingsbridge Armory would be transformed into the world’s largest ice sports complex, Desiree Pilgrim-Hunter sat across the street from the vacant building in a bustling diner and tried valiantly to stay awake.

“I’m exhausted,” she said, following an appearance on Bronxnet, where she talked about her own recent announcement, which didn’t come with quite the same fanfare as the mayor’s.

STAND-UP Helps Secure Community Benefits for New Stadium Deal in Atlanta

Since 2005, Georgia STAND-UP has been a tireless advocate for community benefit agreements in the Atlanta region. Thanks to that persistence, one of the most closely watched public finance deals in Georgia history will produce both a new Falcons football stadium to replace the Georgia Dome, and a precedent-setting requirement that no public money be released until a community benefits agreement is in place.

Banks Held Accountable for Foreclosure Blight in San Diego

After more than a year of advocacy by the Center on Policy Initiatives (CPI) and community allies, San Diego has a new ordinance requiring banks to register all foreclosures and be held accountable if they neglect the properties. On Tuesday, Dec. 18, new Mayor Bob Filner made the Property Value Protection Ordinance the first ordinance he signed into law.
