Los Angeles affiliate, LAANE is working in partnership with the Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs & a Healthy Community on the Stand With Women Against Abuse campaign. This project aims to support female hotel workers in Long Beach, who face dangers such as sexual assault and harassment and crushing workloads.
Last April, 20-year-old Claudia Sanchez, who worked at Renaissance Long Beach Hotel as a dishwasher, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage after working a 14 hour shift. Claudia is slowly recuperating and legislation (named Claudia’s Law in her honor) has been proposed to protect Long Beach hotel workers from exploitative conditions like those Claudia faced. LAANE and their local coalition are urging Long Beach City Council to pass Claudia’s Law to ensure that other hotel workers won't suffer from these exploitative conditions.
